Brown Deer Business Students Place 4th at State Championship
On Friday, February 25th, five business students from Brown Deer High School traveled to UWM for the annual Wisconsin Life Smarts Championship. Nine teams from all around the state of Wisconsin, selected based on the scores they received on their online tests, converged to battle it out- buzzer style- for the right to be called Wisconsin Champs!
LifeSmarts, sponsored by the National Consumer League, is a competition that quizzes students on their knowledge in five key areas: the environment, health and safety, economics and finance, technology, and consumer affairs.
The five member Brown Deer team consisted of senior Meredith Oates, juniors Dan Becker, Brian Michalica, and Sean Andryauskas, and sophomore, Steven Wade. Sean Andryauskas, who was a returning state competitor served as captain. Their coach is Christine Slater, who advises the Association of Business Students (ABS).
Brown Deer dominated their opponents in the first round of competition, put failed to bring on a win in the next two rounds. Oconto Falls won the state championship for the third year in a row. The winning team is awarded with an all-expenses paid trip to Miami Beach to compete in the national LifeSmarts competition.
