National Writing Contest Winner
The Brown Deer Junior Woman's Club sponsored the Youth Short Story Writing Contest and the Youth Poetry Writing Contest earlier this year. Five Brown Deer Middle School students advanced to the state level and then on to the national level with one Brown Deer Middle School student placing first in her category. Both levels of these contests were sponsored by the General Federation Women's Club (GFWC).
Katarina Flecha was awarded first place for her story, "Charlie the Chocolate Bar". At the national level, there were only four categories and Katarina took first place in category three (grades 7, 8 and 9). Katarina was a student in Mrs. Diana Krosky's language arts class at Brown Deer Middle School this year. The official announcement of this award was made at the GFWC International Convention on June 15, 2009 in Cleveland, Ohio.
