Report of shots fired leads to second Brown Deer School District lockdown

Brown Deer High School was locked down for the second time today, along with the elementary and middle schools, after police received reports of possible shots fired just west of campus.

According to a Brown Deer police news release:

Police responded to a report of possible shots fired in the 8000 block of North 60th Street at approximately 2:55 p.m.

Officers on scene received conflicting statements over what type of sound was heard.

Due to the proximity to the high school and the potential for a serious situation, school officials put the district into lockdown as per safety protocols.

Superintendent Deb Kerr said afterschool busing and student pick up went smoothly after the lockdown ended at 3:35 p.m.

The district has since cancelled all afternoon and evening activities.

"I wanted to make sure the police had the room they need," Kerr said. "I thought it would be good for everybody to go home, get a good night's sleep, and come back ready to learn."

Police said there wasn't evidence on scene that the incident involved a firearm, and are continuing their investigation.
