Village launches social networking site
Tool is part of marketing effort
Brown Deer โ Village residents can get together on a new social networking page, OurBrownDeer.com.
Village Manager Russell Van Gompel said the page is part of an effort to market the village.
"It will provide information to visitors and be useful to residents as well," he said.
The site has information about hotels, restaurants and local attractions. When individuals register, they each get a home page on the site, allowing them to interact with others in the network.
Van Gompel said there will be information about upcoming events. The Deer Run is already posted for April.
"We have contacted the school district and the Y and invited them to add their events to the site," he said.
There will also be interest groups. Van Gompel will control the establishment of the groups and hopes civic groups, Scout troops and others will want to set them up.
The village hopes to market advertising space on the site to local businesses.
"There is some cost to maintain and operate the site," he said. "We will charge $30 a month and if you sign up for a year, we will charge for 11 months."
Brochures advertising the village and the interactive Web site will be distributed throughout the community. Both the brochure and the Web site were developed in a collaboration between Linda Goehre, a creative director/graphic designer who grew up in Brown Deer, and Robert Boehm, an advertising and marketing professional based in the North Shore, Van Gompel said
The village also has its official Web site, browndeerwi.org, with information on permits, taxes, refuse collection and more. Van Gompel said residents also find the village on Facebook by searching Village of Brown Deer.
