District officials get feedback on 2009-10 budget
School district staff will look for additional budget cuts for consideration by the Finance and Facilities Committee after 300 people turned out last night for an information meeting about the proposed 2009-2010 district budget.
Many parents and students in attendance feared cuts in German, theater and wrestling but were reassured to learn those programs remain in the budget with some modifications. Two sections of German will be combined into one, the theater program will remain at its current half time level and the wrestling program continues minus an assistant coach under the current proposal, according to information presented at the meeting.
Others at the meeting asked the committee to consider the taxpayers' ability to pay given the economy, including job lay offs or reductions, and suggested looking for additional savings.
The committee will meet at 8 p.m. June 15 to again review the budget.
