RECORDING SERIAL NUMBERS

The Brown Deer Police Department would like to remind residents to copy all serial numbers and model numbers of your property, such as electronic devices you own. Either write the numbers down or take a picture of the item and the serial number. This information can be entered in the computer and help assist officers in their investigation if the items are stolen.   After writing all the numbers down, keep the list in a safe, or a separate location from the items. Things of value that do not have serial numbers should be photographed. In addition an engraver could be used to etch a unique identification number into the item. The number is one that can be picked by the owner and should be written down and stored as a serial number would be.
