The refrain from the old, emotional song confronts us with the choices we have to make in life. Unfortunately, too many of us ONLY see the world as one in which one feels the MUST to ALWAYS support this side or that, especially in political matters. We are a lesser nation for it.
All you have to do is identify a statement or program with a name and decisions are made without any knowledge of the relative merits. We have become a nation of knee-jerk ideologues. I don't know about the knees particularly, but we certainly have become jerks.
The free interchange of ideas and opinions has been lost. Civilized discussion and civilization itself have taken a giant step backward. We have shot ourselves in the foot. We are so blinded by partisan reaction and judgment that the very act of moving forward is suspect. We have become comfortable in our own excrement. We are not the democratic nation we once were; our leadership among nations has taken some very serious hits. We seem to take pride in partisanship and in the process have become either oblivious or uncaring about our sinking reputation in the world.
We hold onto sexual slips by "the other side." We cannot get Bill Clinton's adultery out of our minds, and act as though this gives us license to act against the best interests of the general public. Somehow we choose to forget the adulterous behavior of presidents through the years: Harding [GOP], FDR [Dem.], Eisenhower [GOP], JFK [Dem.], Reagan [GOP], Clinton [Dem.]. Taking sides on this issue seems to be a self-defeating effort. We might mention even candidates for President have had their adulterous behaviors [Edwards, Gingrich, etc.]. So???
It is high time we get ahold of ourselves and begin to act as adults. It is beyond high time that we begin to make intelligent decisions, regardless of political party or some pigeon-holed ideology. And we have to communicate this to our ignorant, partisan politicians. Let us act as Americans, and see our potential as a nation and as a society. Culture is not only relevant to cheese. Let us see the United States of America for its great potential and not restrict this nation from it. We are killing the very nation we claim to love. We are playing out a plot of doom for America.

You won't find insight and wisdom like this in today's media.
That is why Mr. Schultz's observations are so NEEDED.

I've followed him through the years, and whether I agreed or disagreed with him, I recognized the honest attempt to be fair and objective.

Readers of this blog need look no further than the Democrat Party thats been running the Congressional show since 2007 and also the Executive branch for the past 13 months. They had the opportunity to change the political climate in DC (and promised to do so) but failed, or never really ever intended to carry through. Their closed door, back room deals is what passes for, in their minds, free exchange of opinion and ideas .
Breaking News: The rats continue to jump ship.
"In his remarks, Mr. Bayh expressed frustration at what he described as an increasingly polarized atmosphere in Washington that made it impossible to get anything done".
In fact, the less they do, the better off we all are!

That is about the easiest thing to do, if you do not expect much of yourself in the brain department. I believe Forgetme Man may have some intelligent insights. Try offering them F.M. instead of simply taking the easy way out and throwing stones at anybody who does not follow your goose-stepping line. Try to be human; it works miracles. Moderation works in ways other than alcohol intake.

Double all politicians pay and insist they don't report to work. No crap legislation will be created and I'll end up saving myself tons of cash.
Remeber..it was the perjury that did him in.

Today, the happiest people in the world, according to EVERY survey are people living in social democracies.
To blame everything on Reid and Pelosi and Obama is so short-sighted as to prove political myopia [look up the word, ForgetMe and branium]. Every major threat to world peace has come from extremes of the right and the left, mostly from the right: Nazism, Fascism, Imperialism, Colonialism, Right-wing Islam, etc.
When we agreed to open elections in Vietnam, America broke the agreement when it was seen that Ho Chi Minh would get 85% of the vote in both North and South Vietnam. So, after breaking the treaty, we started a horrible war that claimed hundreds and hundreds of thousands of lives. After we left Vietnam it could return to peace. And now Vietnam has become a popular tourist nation for Americans and Europeans. War proves nothing! Militarism is for the ignorant and short-sighted. We never benefited from starting a war. We protected ourselves from the outside invaders and have a right to do so. But to invade Iraq, rattle our weaponry in the Middle East, demonize everything and everybody that is not just like a white, right-wing, American male is preposterous. Read what is written above by two right-wing nuts, and clearly see what I mean.

You may want to read the new book out about how Ken Starr, the special prosecutor, bent the law to try and get Clinton. He didn't care who he stepped on, or what he stepped on (including the U.S. Constitution). But you people who like to refer to our Founding Fathers never like the U.S. Constitution unless it provides some fascist decision and disallows human rights and the rights of citizens.
We are in great danger in the U.S. and it is not Pelosi and Reid that are endangering our democracy...it is much, much deeper than that. Ranting against Obama only allows us to lose more and more of our democracy. Try being less unAmerican. I love this country, too bad you don't.
Frank Ernest - Feb 16, 2010 1:59 PM
people who actually think they are independent thinkers and then completely focus their criticisms on anyone who differs from them politically. How crazy is that? I personally do not like Pelosi or Reid, but I do not like the GOP leadership either...no-nothingisms do not help the U.S. But there are many, many mistakes and puppets on both sides of the aisle. To criticize only one side is what is bringing this nation down.
OBJECTIVITY- look it up.

The sham jury in the Clinton impeachment trail were not peers, but co-conspirators (the US Senate). The outcome was determined in advance. Your reference to Ken Starr is nothing more than a lame distraction away from the real victims of the sad tale, the abused and disgarded women manipulated by the king toad himself. Your distorted spew shows your (and most other progressives) true colors. You favor corruption and power over justice.
steven c - Feb 16, 2010 3:32 PM
Are there other parts of the U.S. Constitution that you think we should ignore? Read the Constitution, look up who led the impeachment trial, and find out the meaning of "justice."
Have you ever had your IQ measured, Forget-Me-Knot?
