As Governor Palin has explicitly announced, "the gloves are off." They certainly are. Behind in the polls, McCain and Palin now plan a below-the-belt, bigoted, lie-filled attack on Barack Obama. There are no dignity, stature, or honesty left in the ammunition of the right-wing to be fired from now until election day.

All the pretense of trust and understanding is further given bling by subtle and not-so-subtle references to Christian principles and fundamental beliefs. Ronald Reagan, who had a grand reputation before entering politics of womanizing and romancing all kinds of women, suddenly found religion could get him to Sacramento and Washington, D.C. It is amazing to me that the right-wingers, who through the years have fought every social justice and fairness legislation, love to raise patriotism to gain favor.

As you watch McCain and Palin desperately launch this last-stand effort to lie and cheat, try to keep your civilized mind in gear and overcome the lowest nature they will try to reach inside you. The Republican candidates for president and vice president are going to try and touch your deep-rooted loyalty to America, to scare you into believing that war is the answer to protect you from evil, and that Obama is different than you and therefore cannot be trusted. Think, and think hard, who is McCain trying to follow in setting up his own presidency?: George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and the same old gang that lied and cheated their way into the White House in 2000 and 2004.
