Long Division
The changes that have come to this country in the past few years seem unbelievable. We have become more polarized politically than perhaps any other time in US history. We spend five or six years pleading for us to come together. That time has ended. Whether it's hopeless or not, we now stand to be hopelessly and helplessly divided. Welcome to the new era of the United States.
Last week's Supreme Court decision on the state of Obamacare cemented our divisions. On one side are the people who believe that health care is a right. Cost is not a factor when it comes to saving lives. We must do what is morally right or even what's in the Bible. And what comes to paying for this, who cares? Ill come from the rich, will come from the middle class. It may become from the poor. It would be borrowed money. Who knows? Who cares?
On the other side of the people who believe in personal responsibility. Everybody has skin in the game. You should this not be peers and they should just not be takers. Perhaps people could give to their ability and only take according to their needs.
There are a lot of conservatives were scratching their heads over John Roberts and his decision. Did he change his mind? Is he no longer a solid conservative? I can't say for sure if he did change his mind from pressure from liberals, but at this point I can't dismiss it either. One take away we all have from this is that there is no constitutional provision preventing stupid laws from being passed.
The government is currently spending a lot of time and money now putting out some question and answers about the health care bill. None of them are going to address questions about taxes. All written here about is how good all these benefits are that we can now force insurance companies to keep our children on the parents' policy for about half their life. Those who can't afford insurance will now get it subsidized. I'm still trying to figure out how a bat will save money. We can either told the benefits of not having lifetime caps on the care we receive or we can call this law a money saving effort. We can't do both.
This also makes presidential race much more interesting. Obama character and now told this as his great achievement. But two years wasted ignoring job and economic growth will now not be considered a waste. GDP growth is now considered robust at 1.9% annually. And we will be starting another recession at 8.2% unemployment.
In a summer of hot dry weather and the optimism of the presidential election will now have the large cloud of the unknown hanging over us. One thing we can be sure of is that it won't be bringing us together and unifying the nation anytime soon.
