THE DISGUSTING GOP PARADE
Oh, how the right-wing hypocrites love to parade their worthiness, their holiness, their high morals, their family values, the adherence to the Bible and the Constitution, their judgments on the rest of us sinners, those of us who are tainted and dirty. Let's take a look at these chest-pounders, these flag wavers, these holy figures who think they are pulling the wool over our eyes...
Need we begin with anyone less than Newt Gingrich. After a sleazy life of adultery, lying, getting judged by his own House as being unethical, ad infinitum, he now has the gall to tell us that is behind him and he is now a new man, a convert to Roman Catholicism. Besides taking bribe money from government agencies and institutions recently, he was led to Catholic conversion by a Catholic woman with whom he had a relationship in adultery while he was still married. Yes, that is Newt the Holy.
How about good ole Rick Perry? This heroic figure criticized gays and lesbians for serving openly in the military. Mr. Perry, where are YOUR medals? How many battles did YOU perform bravely in for the U.S.? How dare you criticize men and women who bravely defend you and this nation but are gay? Your idea of America is to guaranty the right for children in U.S. schools to pray only a Christian prayer, but want to deny openly gay people from defending your right to hold these anti-America beliefs. You are a pathetic hypocrite, sir.
Let's go back to the man who led a witch-hunt that ruined the lives of many Americans, Joe McCarthy. He had a Red-sniffer-outer, Roy Cohn, helping him find communists under every rock and behind every tree and at every liberal gathering. Now that is democracy in action to a right-winger. Oops, Roy Cohn, who called gays "sissies" was himself gay. Huh? Yep, he finally had to admit it. Hypocrite.
The recent Governor of South Carolina, who was one of the leaders in criticizing Bill Clinton for his Monica episodes, was himself having trysts with a woman from Argentina. And the Governor, a married man who wore his evangelical credentials on his sleeve, left for some R&R, and forgot to tell the citizens of his state or his wife that he was actually flying to Argentina to have a sex-filled time with his adulterous senorita. His wife was devistated, to say nothing of the South Carolina citizens. A true and honored right-wing hypocrite.
We all know about the incident in the men's room of the Minneapolis airport, and the U.S. right-wing legislator who signaled under the toilet stall that he was interested in having a gay encounter. This hypocrite also wore his right-wing, evangelical medals proudly. Nothing but a hypocrite.
Ken Mehlman, who was GOP party chairman during the Bush administration, avidly strutted himself as a true believer, a true right-winger, a true follower of George W. Bush, a loyal Republican, a leader in his political party, an evangelical of the first waters had to recently admit that he was "one of those." Is he anything other than a hypocrite?
Then there are the gay-bashers like Dick Cheney, whose daughter is gay, or Karl Rove, whose father was gay. Are they anything other than hypocritical?
I could go on and on with names of right wing leaders like Marvin Lieberman [National Review], David Brook, Arthur Finkelstein, Jimmy LaSalvia, Tony Fabrizio [Rick Perry's close consultant], etc. Hypocrites.
The liberals and Democrats have their own "sinners" and they are usually somewhat less sophisticated and "genuine" than the right-wing hypocrites. John Edwards was a lying, deceiving poser. But Bill Clinton never took on the robes and the aura of the deceitful Newt Gingriches of the world.
Can we get over our shallow, short-sighted, petty, little judgments, and stop strutting around like evangelical saints? All of us are sinners. To pretend otherwise is hypocrisy to the max. Let's try to show some humanity and show some human welfare for the less fortunate among us. The greed and selfishness that now permeates the right-wing is perhaps the biggest sin of all. Let us overcome the right-wing greed and insensitivity, and try to show some human kindness and care for others. None of us is free of worry about careful scrutiny of our personal lives. I am a sinner. I strive to show less of my sins and more of my humanity. I want to serve my fellow man and my sisters. And I want to do it with sincerity. Help me. Join me in forging a better world through service. Our true democracy demands it.
