IGNORANCE LEADS AMERICA
Ignorance is leading the U.S. No, it is not only the Tea Party. It is more general than that. The U.S., the leading nation in the world [supposedly] is ignorant about the world it "leads." A little over 30% of Americans even own a passport, in spite of the fact that one is needed even to travel to Canada and the Caribbean. U.S. citizens are a bunch of intellectually lazy, parochial, ignorant, bigoted, uninformed people. Our decisions are made out of ignorance not insight. We have become a laughing stock.
We are suspicious of immigrants or people we silently dub "the other." Yet our language comes from England, our numbers from Arab cultures, our coffee from Brazil, our autos from Japan, our computers from China, our clothing from Bangladesh, our oil from Arab nations, our fruit from Mexico and Chile, our chocolate from Africa, and on and on. Our bigoted conclusions about the world are based on ignorance.
We feel we have the right to invade other sovereign nations. We act internationally out of ignorance. We have no clue. Our culture is twangy. Intellectually and educationally, when compared to other industrialized nations we fail miserably. Yet we act in a superior fashion. We are ignorant and don't even know it! Our arrogance is based upon lack of insight.
We should be ashamed at how we have failed after all that was handed to us. Yet we act out proudly and patriotically. We are our own hillbillies. We celebrate greed over culture, bigotry over tolerance, money over education. We are greedy hayseeds.
Now we are at a crossroads. We are being swallowed up by our own greed. We cannot bring ourselves to compromise for the greater good. We are locked into our own ignorance.
Some of the words used to justify our own backwardness: "I don't care what they do, just so they don't do it in my face or backyard"....."No new taxes!"....."We won!"....."Throw the bums out and bring in less intelligent bums!"....."What do you expect from 'those' people?"....."God is on our side."
The latest New York Times/CBS News poll indicates that 82% of Americans disapprove of the way Congress is conducting itself. While only 46% of Americans approve of the way President Obama handled the debt ceiling crisis, 72% disapprove of the way the Republicans handled it, and 66% disapproved of the way Democrats in Congress handled it. Remember this includes the many new tea partiers in Congress and voting by the general public. We are headed in exactly the wrong directoin.
Of those polled, 77% said elected officials in Washington acted like "spoiled children" and NOT "responsible adults." What we don't need is more of the same ignorance to be voted into office.
The recent recall elections in Wisconsin proved one thing. Those protecting their greed come out to vote in huge percentages, far more than the average citizens. We have to come to grips with handling greed and ignorance. Like obedient puppets, we are being led into the furnace of national/cultural suicide, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves.
